Headlines via Reuters, citing the South Korean presidential office on the matter
Says that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un told South Korea’s national security director, Chung Eui-yong that «big results would be made if he were to meet with Trump». And that there is no formal letter or invitation, only a verbal message was passed on from Chung to Trump on the meeting with North Korea.
Chung then asked Trump to trust in South Korea’s perception of Kim, advising Trump to seize the opportunity to meet with North Korea. The presidential office also said that Trump only agreed to meet with Kim after Chung briefed him on the inter-Korean summit.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s president Moon is on the wires commenting:
- Thanks Trump, Kim Jong Un for making hard decision
- Has ordered a preparation team for April inter-Korean summit
