Economic data due from Asia today — Japan CPI day

Inflation data from Japan is the highlight today 2330 GMT

  • National CPI y/y for September, expected is 0.7%, prior was 0.7%
  • National CPI y/y excluding Fresh Food for September, expected is 0.7%, prior was 0.7%
  • National CPI excluding Food, Energy y/y for September, expected is 0.2%, prior was 0.2% — this is the closest to US ‘core’ inflation
  • Tokyo CPI y/y for October, expected is 0.1%, prior was 0.5% (Tokyo CPI data is available a month earlier than the National CPI)
  • Tokyo CPI excluding Fresh Food y/y for October, expected is 0.5%, prior was 0.5%
  • Tokyo CPI excluding Food, Energy y/y for October, expected is 0.0%, prior was 0.0%

While headline inflation is still way off the Bank of Japan target, at least it has headed in the Bank’s desired direction. Core inflation, though …. nope. Way, way behind.
0030 GMT — Australia — PPI for Q3, prior 0.5% q/q and 1.7% y/y
0110 GMT — Bank of Japan JGB purchases (5-10, 10-25, and 25+ years)
